Shaomei Wu

Shaomei is a research scientist at Facebook AI. Coming from an interdisciplinary background, she is interested in addressing real-world problems through computational methods and people-centered design. Her current work focuses on designing and building AI-powered technologies for people from marginalized and under-resourced communities, for example, people with disabilities. She led the team that designed and built Automatic alt-text on Facebook. Shaomei received a PhD from Cornell University, and her MS and BS in Computer Science from University of California, Santa Barbara and Tsinghua University, respectively.
