RAISE is an 18-month (previously 24 months) rotational program offering participants (known as ‘RAISErs’) full-time employment with the Meta AI team. It is designed to bring a diverse cohort of software engineers with little to no AI/ML experience together from a wide range of industry experiences and backgrounds -- ranging from individual contributors a few years out of school to experienced engineers. After completing the 18-month program, the goal is for RAISE alumni to seamlessly continue their employment at Meta by selecting a permanent Meta AI team to join that aligns with their skills and interests. Throughout the program, all RAISErs are full-time employees, providing each individual with all the benefits of being a software engineer at Meta.
RAISErs start together as a cohort and follow the same overall program timeline to share experiences and build connections with others in the program. All engineering new hires at Meta first attend 5 weeks of Bootcamp where they will learn about Meta engineering.
Although they may work with different peers and teams throughout their rotations, each RAISEr will have a single manager for the duration of the program. The first rotation project is held on the RAISEr’s manager’s team, whereas later rotations can take place elsewhere in Meta AI. Subsequent rotations after the first will pair RAISErs with project mentors and peers on the team to help them learn and succeed.
One of the exciting opportunities in RAISE is the ability to work on a breadth of projects in the domain of AI, if participants so choose. RAISErs can guide their experience in the program and get practical experience in various stages of research engineering and the machine learning lifecycle. Past projects have included a variety of hands-on learning opportunities spanning responsible AI, integrity, infrastructure, platforms, AR, commerce, and ads. We continue to expand to new research areas with each additional cohort.
While taking part in the rotations across the AI team, they can learn to develop and apply cutting-edge tools and research. The program provides a unique AI foundation through hands-on experience in exploration, development, measurement, and deployment. Participants can gain practical experience with frameworks like PyTorch and Meta internal tools, develop state of the art models, apply research to production, and more.
Additionally, RAISE will facilitate networking events, ongoing development opportunities, and cohort-tailored experiences. New participants will receive mentorship from past RAISE cohorts to help navigate the program and Meta AI. RAISErs may also have the chance to travel internationally for academic conferences or working with colleagues.
As the program comes to an end, RAISErs work with their manager and network to identify roles of interest in Meta AI.
RAISE includes all Meta AI groups, although the individual teams and projects offered will vary with each cohort and rotation.
The 2022 program is being offered in Menlo Park, New York City, Seattle, and Remote in the United States.
The total number of spots in the cohort is limited, as is the availability of each location and team.

How do I apply?

How are RAISE managers assigned?
For candidates who join RAISE, we will collect their career interests and preferences. We will then use those responses to match incoming RAISErs with a manager before the program begins.
How do the rotations work?
The first rotation will be assigned by the RAISEr’s manager, and participants will conduct their first rotation in their hiring manager’s functional area. All subsequent rotations will take place on Meta AI teams, and project selection will take individuals’ preferences into account.
What happens at the end of the program?
The program ends at 18 months and RAISErs must exit the rotational program. Partway through their final rotation, participants will work with their manager to initiate the transfer process to a permanent team in Meta.
What kind of mentorship do participants receive?
Over the 18 months, participants will have the same manager throughout all of their rotations and that manager will be responsible for their first project upon joining Meta. During each subsequent rotation, participants will work closely with a project mentor who is a domain expert in the particular rotation area. Additional mentors are encouraged, and RAISE participants will collaborate with a variety of teammates and collaborators in each project.
